Adam Perysian opened The Artificery Annex on May 15, 2025 out of a 10×14 snack shed in Hart’s Main Street Market — a small proof of concept built to support a larger creative project that was still taking shape. It grew fast. By August, a move to his first brick-and-mortar at 208 Washington Street brought the retail vision into sharper focus, and with it a new name: Merchantpunk Trading Co. Then on May 15, 2026 — exactly one year to the day from that first shed opening — he soft-opened at 55 State Street inside the historic Hatch-Denison Block (1889).

Merchantpunk Trading Co. carries international snacks and beverages, hobby gaming supplies, trading cards, tabletop games, collectibles, skill toys, and novelty merchandise. The store also hosts in-store gaming with dedicated table space for trading card games and tabletop RPGs. A self-serve instant ramen bar is coming soon, starting with a select menu of instant meals and à la carte toppings and building out over time. The fixtures and displays are being hand built and evolving — the store itself is an ongoing creative project as much as a retail operation.

The name Merchantpunk means something specific. Adam has always been drawn to the romance of old-world commerce — the wild west general store, the apothecary, the tinker’s stall — and to epic fantasy, maker culture, and the idea of the merchant not as a background character but as the protagonist of the story. As someone who has always worn every hat at once — builder, maker, curator, storyteller, community connector — he considers himself an Artificer, the Jack-of-all-trades magical maker who builds the world around him from whatever’s at hand. The -punk suffix is intentional — commerce as craft, trade as adventure, the solo operator carving out something real from nothing, building it alongside the community it serves.
